CINEMATIC APPROACH

HORSE SESSIONS

Horse sessions are charged spaces of revelation, physicality, uncertainty and concentrated growth.

They will be filmed cinematically, almost as a dance, using steady-cams and long lenses, putting the viewer right inside the action.

The sound design will heighten this feeling, with the pulsing heartbeat of the animal and trainer and the exaggerated breathing, quickening as tensions rise.

CINEMATIC APPROACH

COMBAT FLASHBACKS

We will utilize combat flashbacks in order to illustrate this internal emotional space of the veterans when tempers flare during horse sessions. These will be drawn from home video, deployment and combat archival from our main characters and supplemented with more general firefight footage from similar deployments.

Towards the conclusion of the film, it will be the absence of flashback that illustrates growth. The veteran will be presented with the same triggers that set them off previously, the score will build, breathing will intensify as the scene crescendos… then nothing. The veteran will remain calm and engage with the animal appropriately, thereby illustrating growth in our characters.

CINEMATIC APPROACH

RECREATIONS

In order to enhance the verité horse sessions, we’ll work with Pat and a few of his best trained horses to film intimate, dynamic movements with the horses themselves. These sessions will provide a wide range of cinematic options that can be intercut to better communicate the personality of these powerful creatures.
